You all know I harp on the gay marriage debate a lot, but I thought of something else recently that I wanted to share:
Gay marriage really IS a tool Satan is using to help Christians stray from a righteous path.
I know what you're thinking. It's either "Oh great, another bible thumper here to shame the gays" or "Wow, she fell off her rocker!" Hear me out.
Think of how much focus and money has gone to the gay marriage debate. Try to wrap your head around how many people have donated how many hours and how many dollars to try to make the union of two consenting adults illegal, just because it violates someone's personal beliefs. Go ahead.
In California alone, members of the church I belong to donated over $20,000,000 to the fight for Prop 8. Look how many zeroes are in there. TWENTY MILLION dollars, for ONE state.
Don't you see what is happening? We are so focused on controlling someone else's life, people we don't even know, that we are ignoring REAL issues!
Gay marriage is threatening traditional marriage??? Really??? Do you know what the biggest threats to traditional marriage are???
THESE are threats to your marriage. 50% of marriages end in divorce. HALF. And try as I might, I cannot find one single list of reasons why people get divorced that include ANYTHING having to do with "the gays".
"Researchers have identified the most common reasons people give for theirSatan is quite literally using gay marriage as a way to turn our hearts away from our Heavenly Father and His son Jesus Christ's teachings of love and harmony, and toward hate and separation.
divorces. A recent national survey79 found that the most common reason given for divorce was “lack of commitment” (73% said this was a major reason). Other significant reasons included too much arguing (56%), infidelity (55%), marrying too young (46%), unrealistic expectations (45%), lack of equality in the relationship (44%), lack of preparation for marriage (41%), and abuse (29%). (People often give more than one reason, so the percentages add up to more than 100%.)"
Imagine how much good we could do for marriage with $20,000,000. Offer free pre-marital education classes. Donate it to domestic violence shelters. Start anger management or addiction recovery programs. Sponsor a pre-marital finances class. Sooooo many things we could do that are in the spirit of love rather than hate.
Imagine how much good we could do for marriage with all the man hours that were wasted on the Prop H8 debacle. How many hours of peer to peer counseling we could have donated. How many hours of advice we could have given. How many hours of cheering someone up. So many hours wasted on hate.
Gay marriage may be a sin according to your religion, that's not the problem. The problem is how much time and effort we're devoting to hate that we could be putting toward love. And we don't even realize it.
Satan has found an excellent tool, a tool so clever he's even disguised it as furthering God's plan. But just remember, Jesus was once asked what the most important commandments were, and this is the answer he gave:
Master, which the great commandment in the law?
Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt
alove the Lord thy God with all thy bheart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy cmind.
This is the first and great
And the second like unto it, Thou shalt
alove thy neighbour as thyself.
On these two commandments hang all the
alaw and the prophets.
(Matthew 22:36-40)So if the second greatest commandment is to love thy neighbor (notice, there's no asterisk there, there are no specifications or exemptions), it's safe to say He's not going to encourage hate. So let's all commit to using our time, money and effort to furthering Jesus's message. Nobody is saying to support a cause you don't believe in, but instead of condemning something you hate, go support something you love. I guarantee it will make the world a better place. :-)
